The Rexford, Mont., station of the Great Northern Railway was established in 1903. It was closed in 1972 when the railroad was rerouted due to the flooding of the area behind the Libby Dam. The company was incorporated in 1895 to build a railroad line from the Columbia River to the international boundary. It completed a 7.5-mile line from Northport (Stevens County) to the border, which was operated as part of the Spokane Falls and Northern Railway system until 1907 when it was subsumed into the Great Northern.
